Historical London

With so many tourist attractions in such a concentrated area, it’s impossible to name all of the places worth visiting during your trip. However, top of your list must include a trip to Westminster. Arguably the most recognisable landmark in London, the UK and possibly the world, Big Ben is a magnificent clock tower that overlooks the bustling city below.

Located directly west of the Palace of Westminster and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey is the UK’s most notable religious building steeped in royal history. Famed as the location of coronation, wedding and burial sites of British monarchs, Westminster Abbey is also home to the graves of Isaac Newton and Charles Dickens.

Situated on the north bank of the River Thames, the Tower of London is a historic castle with a dramatic history. Built by William the Conqueror after his conquest in 1066, the Tower of London has a grim reputation as a place of torture and death. Join a Beefeater on a tour through the castle, the priceless Crown Jewels and the legend of the Tower’s ravens.

Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has been the home of the British monarchy and today is the London residence of Queen Elizabeth II. During summer, you can explore the lavishly-furnished state rooms, the iconic throne room and the grand staircase.

Nestled in the heart of London, St Paul’s Cathedral is an impressive structure and a prominent part of the London skyline. The cathedral was designed and constructed in the 17th century by Sir Christopher Wren, after the original was seriously damaged during the Great Fire of London.

Cultural Capital

London is one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world. With an abundance of galleries, museums, theatres and shops, London has plenty do whether it’s a sunny summers day or a rainy winters afternoon.

With over 100 theatres, including 50 in the West End, London is famous for its theatre district, which offers a diverse variety of entertainment. Book tickets to see one of many incredible shows and see some of the wonderfully talented famous actors performing live.

With such a rich cultural history, it’s hardly surprising that London is home to some truly special art galleries and museums – and best of all, most of them are free to enter. Located in Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings including works from Van Gogh, Monet and da Vinci.

Holding over 80 million artefacts, from botany to palaeontology, the Natural History Museum is one of London’s best days out for the whole family. The museum is also home to some of the world’s most famous dinosaur skeletons, including Sophie, the most complete stegosaurus fossil and Dippy, the Diplodocus.

From Harrods to Liberty’s, and Oxford Street to Borough Market, it’s fair to say that London is a shopper’s paradise. Boasting a diverse range of eateries and bars, London is home to one of the most vibrant food and drink scenes in the world.
